If Convention of the States Doesn’t Happen, Your Children Won’t Recognize America in 50 Years

On his nationally syndicated radio show last Friday, host Mark Levin said that if a Convention of the States does not happen, children today won’t recognize America for what it is in 50 years.

Speaking about the Convention of the States on his Friday show, Levin stated, “It’s certainly not gonna happen tomorrow, certainly not gonna happen next year, but if it doesn’t happen, I’m telling you, in 50 years, your children will not recognize this country.”

“We had a few calls last night, as I do often, asking, ‘Mark, where do we go with this? Where are we headed? How do we save our republic?’ And I wrote an entire book on this called the “Liberty Amendments.”

“Remember the Albany Congress and the Stamp Act Congress and the First Continental Congress and the Second Continental Congress, how the colonies and then the states would meet, would meet to discuss what was taking place in the country, how to make it better?

“Well, those geniuses who met in Philadelphia after the Revolutionary War to replace the Articles of Confederation with an actual constitution, they put a provision in their constitution under Article V that provides two ways to amend the Constitution: one, through Congress. Two-thirds of both houses, proposing amendments to the states, three-fourths of the states or now 38 states having to ratify. And two days before the end of the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, George Mason stood up – a delegate from Virginia, genius, brilliant – and he said, ‘If Congress shall turn oppressive, the only way to reform what’s taking place is through violence. We must give the people the power to address a tyrannical Congress,’ or in this case a tyrannical federal government. And they set forth the process in the Constitution, and the legitimate constitutional way is through the state legislatures – 34 state legislatures, coming up with virtually identical resolutions when it comes to the issues they want to discuss, calling for a meeting, a convention of the states, where they meet and they discuss what they want to do to get the original Constitution back, which has been rewritten by the politburo that we now call the Supreme Court, which still would require the same ratification process: 38 states, three-fourths of the state legislatures, either by the legislatures or convention.

“So there’s no potential whatsoever for a runaway convention since the states are in charge from beginning to end. This is how you address what’s taking place in this country. It’s certainly not gonna happen tomorrow, certainly not gonna happen next year, but if it doesn’t happen, I’m telling you, in 50 years your children will not recognize this country.”

Right on. Every conservative needs to have a cup of STFU. Get activated. We own this republic, act like it.

Exactly. A convention will be a free for all with no guarantees of who will come out ahead.

“They ignore the Constitution as it is now!!! How will changing the Constitution make socialists obey it?? “

That’s exactly why I say repeal the 17th Amendment before you do anything else. Such an amendment could not be cheated.

I’ve been seeing this CoS pushed by Levin and others for a couple of years.

I’ve NEVER seen anything about what their ultimate goals are if such a CoS was actually successful.

Anyone here familiar with what the hell they want?

If this phony wasn’t cheerleading torture, rendition, and all the other abuses of the Bush II disaster, I’d be more interested. He’s a discredited hack who shouts loud.

It seems to me that a COS would be a boon for states rights and could get some good amendments passed. Congress has done a very poor job amending and protecting the Constitution.

Yes:

Amendment to repeal the 17th (direct election of Sinators)

Amendment for Congressional term limits (eg, 12 years, any combo for Rep terms and Sinator terms)

While the “balanced budget amendment” is older, and on a different path, the current COS may advocate for some financial-related amendments in that vein.

Term limits on federal judges

Basically, what the States themselves view as limiting the power of the feds, and restoring federalism - that has been increasingly usurped over the last century by congress. And, amendments that congress itself would never think of coming up with.

A convention will be a free for all with no guarantees of who will come out ahead.

Read the article. Read other articles on COS.

A great deal changes when you shift the power from one where representatives are population-based (congress), to where the delegates vote in a one-state-one-vote basis (COS).

The following link seems to list ten “Liberty Amendments” that Levin proposed in his book of the same name (with commentary on them by the author of the linked blog page)

I can see Paul Ryan being selected ‘by acclaim’ to be the convention chair.

Read the article; read other articles; can't happen no-way no-how. period.

The whole purpose of the COS is to eek congresscritters out of the process, and to propose amendments that congress would NEVER propose on their own, because it's for limiting fed power. ALL delegates will emerge from their individual states.

And, most of all as a protector of what you fear, it shifts the voting power to states that elected Trump, and 'R's in general.

Well, I read through the list, and the blogger disagrees with most of them. So at least it gives another viewpoint of them.

I clicked on a recommended link on the page [amend-it dot org] and Bitdefender blocked it saying:

Is this just the dreaded ConCon with a new name?
As I understand everything would be on the table.

For starters, how long do you think Amendment 2 would last?
Guaranteed first item changed.

Bingo Bango bongo. I am all in with the SMART FOLKS who recognize the CONSTITUTION is Not the problem, and amending it through an Article V convention is not the solution.

Noticing your tag line, I have to ask, is your response perhaps a line from a movie?

Careful. A whole lot more municipals and other Democrat interests are wanting that convention more than conservatives who want it. And many commie local and state government interests (see government unions including teachers’ unions) would love to be the gate keepers of all of the Senate and many other levers of power.
