Well, Frontier Fios was installed in the neighborhood a few years back so we had an option there and went with them.
Anytime you quit Comcast, save all the receipts. Their inventory control sucks and they tried to claim I didn’t turn in my cable modem. Fortunately I kept the receipt that proved I did turn it in.
There is also wireless Sprint made to run insider your house instead of on a cellphone. That is a little pricey for the amount of data you get, but it is an option, if you have good Sprint signal around you (you can check online to see what your local Sprint signal strength is).
I get Verizon fios internet for about $40 per month ... no tv or phone.
Don't know about that poster but I use cell phone service through T-mobile for all my internet, video streaming and cell phone and data service needs etc and am well pleased. The only alternative I have available is DirecTV and I absolutely refuse to use them again for several reasons the worst being they are owned and operated by AT&T aka the evil spawn of hell himself. Also the reception gets really spotty and piss poor in a moderate to heavy rainfall contrary to what they claim.
I live in the country on 8+ acres, and would happily sign a 5 year deal with Comcast if they’d put high speed internet out here.
No cable, and the telco (Frontier) won’t bother to put in ADSL, or whatever is after that, because there’s not enough home density out here.
I get it’s an investment, but rural high speed internet is a huge issue that needs to be addressed. I don’t have the million dollars to get the telco to put in routers, nor to run fiber to my house (approximately 1 mile away).
I get a blazing 1.73 Mb download (per speedtest.net).
(Note - I actually worked for Roadrunner, when they were acquired by Time Warner, and have 20+ years experience on enterprise routers, switches, firewalls, VPN, and wireless gear.)
