Parents who share pictures of their children on social media are putting their human rights at risk, the United Nations has warned.
The UN's special rapporteur Joseph Cannataci said that "strong guidelines" were needed to preserve the rights of children whose parents upload video and images of them.
During a mission to the UK to assess the privacy situation he also found that kindergarten-age children were being surveilled using CCTV at school and in their bedrooms.
At a press conference on Friday he suggested there could be a rising number of cases involving children who argue their rights have been infringed because their parents had posted videos and images of them on the internet.
"How do you deal with parents who insist on taking a video of their kids every single day and posting it on YouTube every single day?
"We've already seen the very first cases of kids suing their parents because of the stuff they have posted on Facebook about them," he said.

6-Year-Old Explains How Messed Up It Is That Her Entire Life Has Been Put On Facebook
Every liberal is a violent totalitarian thug.
“How do you deal with parents who insist on taking a video of their kids every single day and posting it on YouTube every single day?”
Well here’s a thought Joseph Cannataci : How about you mind your own business.
I think parents who post to social media pictures of their minor children are really foolish
Okay last straw let’s get out of the band of thugs and fakers.
UN upset that images of children could help stop their underage trafficking, film at eleven.
Another form of child abuse, gad people today are idiots.
Another form of child abuse, gad people today are idiots.
It puts the children in jeopardy and who knows what happens to some of these pictures. Especially when one reads that many childhood sexual abuse cases happen by KNOWN individuals to the family such as a family member or someone who has manipulated the adult relationship to get closer to the child.
Then there is the whole issue of childhood privacy. Which belongs to the child to a certain extent--especially as they get older than 5 or 6 (before that sadly it is usually in the parents' hands.) and each child has a different way of experiencing being 'seen' publicly. Those natural feelings and rights are taken away by many these days. Including not even the parents. But relatives that posts family pictures as well.
A lot of mindless people out there these days.
The last two family funerals I attended I was very upset as multiple people were taking pictures of me at the family wakes talking with others in private conversations.
I told them to stop. There must have been 3 different family members.
My family posts a lot on social media. So you never know what will end up where. I made it clear in my family no one posts pictures of me online, unless they have my permission (which by the way) has never or rarely been given.
A future drama-queen liberal, ok maybe not so much "future," laying out the truth of fakebook addicted parents exploiting their own daughter.
Just wow...
:-)
.
I never did for safety purposes.
Agree!
I thought it was hilarious.
They are the children of their parents, not the UN, a private global group.
To make the liberal state mandate it, say it is a human right.

One of my favorites. Who knew The Onion was on to something?
Smart phones are for idiots.(;>)
Why do people post pictures of their children all over the internet for pedophiles to see?
Why did people vote for 0bama or Hillary? Some things we just don’t understand.
