What toy(s) every child should have?

Posted on 06/28/2018 5:55:26 PM PDT by MNDude

Everyone has a memory of their favorite toys they grew up with. Which toy or toys do you think every child should grow up without? GI Joes for boys? A doll for girls? what do you think?

A crystal radio. Get a 100 ft coil of copper wire for the antenna.
An Erector Set. Or the modern equivalent, enroll the kid in a local “Maker” place and build real mechatronic stuff.
For teen boys, they need to protect the most important weapon of all. Trojans will do.

A Tonka dump truck. When I was about two years old, my favorite toy was a ride-on dump truck. I don't know if it was a Tonka or another brand but it could've been a Buddy L. I also had a very large Olive Drab Tonka U. S. Army dump truck that had a air cylinder to operate the dump box. I imagine it would be worth a couple of bucks now. Also, my father was an electrician in Detroit where we lived and he used to set up stores for a company named Wisconsin Toy and Novelty Company. Every Christmas season, they would open toy stores named Union Co-op Toy Sale in Detroit. Only union members could shop there and I helped my dad set up the stores with the register drops and alarm photo-cells. I literally had my pick of any of the returned toys that could not be salvaged. I had the complete set of G.I. Joe nationalities, including the German soldier, the Japanese soldier, the Australian soldier, the British soldier, and the French soldier, who wore a beret and sweater. They would be worth some pretty big bucks now if they were still around.

I still have my father's single shot .22, and each of my kids learned to shoot with a bb gun and then that .22 before they moved on to other firearms.

That's not mine, but it's almost the same - a simple classic.

I hit an WHOLE roll of caps with a big sledge hammer when I was 8. On the garage concrete floor. I think that was the day my tinnitus started. Ears are still ringing.

Also, Cox .049 Gas-powered cars and airplanes with the smelly fuel and glow-plugs. I had a dune buggy and a programmable Van.

Sounds like good fun. I never used anything bigger than a regular 16 ounce hammer.

I used a regular claw hammer then got the “AHA!” moment to go all the way. I still remember how loud that explosion was. I’m surprised the neighbors didn’t come running and the fire department didn’t show up.
