meh. i don’t have any good feelings for a child abuser. and I doubt he was religious.
To borrow from another post of today; Joe Jackson was ‘as mean as a Wolverine’. This is the truth. Was is also true is that he ‘tough-loved’ his children to perform at their best.
Like it or not, the Jackson Family has left an indelible mark on pop music and culture. The Jackson Family also serves as a warning of what can happen when children are not allowed to live the carefree lives most of us had during our own childhoods.
The Jacksons story is not a new one.
Look up how The Beach Boys were formed and tempered into a professional act, mostly the dictatorial ambitions of Murry Gage Wilson, the late father of lead band members Brian, Dennis and Carl. It is a strange paradox, that sometimes to achieve greatness, one has to be pushed in a manner that does not come naturally. That makes one ask if a sustained level of greatness is not, normally a natural state for anybody.
I’m sure some of them at least. Wasn’t Janet was the only child to make good with him at the end ?...but she wasn’t sexually molested either as far as I am aware.

I’ve read of the hard work and the sacrifices he went through in the early days to get his family where they are today.
He may have been a jerk and a child abuser, but he was typical of many fathers of that era. He used what little ability he had to promote the Jackson family.
Tyranny begins in the home. Gary Indiana was a hard place to raise a family.

I believe he was a child abuser. HE messed up Michael’s head. My opinion is that while he was able to manage the family to fame, he also was responsible for the mental instability suffered by many of his kids.
His most famous son wanted NOTHING TO DO WITH HIM after he was able to break free.
That makes one ask if a sustained level of greatness is not, normally a natural state for anybody.

He absolutely admitted beating the kids and until the end didn’t regret it because that is how they were kept them ‘in line.’ Probably one reason Michael got so hooked on plastic surgery - to avoid any resemblance there may have been to dad.
