California voters will decide this fall whether to overturn a recent increase to state gasoline and diesel taxes that has raised billions of dollars for road repairs and other transportation projects. (WHAT ROAD REPAIRS)?
Secretary of State Alex Padilla announced Monday that an initiative to repeal the tax hikes, as well as new vehicle registration fees, has qualified for the November ballot. Government officials had set a slow pace on signature verification but, after threatening action over the delay, the signature verification was completed. Thanks to Carl DeMaio Initiative Chairman.
Dishonest money grubbing...job security conniving politics is bad wherever...whenever...by whoever...voters need to vote the bums out...if in real doubt ....vote em.out...
The people of this state are stupid. Once Gavin Newsome tells them to vote against repeal, they will vote against repeal.
Newsome will win with at least 65% of the vote and the gas tax repeal will fail by a similar margins. We will probably vote for some more Prop 47-like inititives too to help our crime go up even more and the homeless doper population to continue to grow.
Come November what will happen to Moonbeams Bullet Train project? They wouldn’t use the gas tax money for this stupid train project, would they?
Actually a gas tax is a tax on the poor. It certainly hits low income people harder than high income people.
But, if CA would learn how to spend its existing gas tax on roads instead of insane transit projects the people would not revolt.
Cannot remember exactly...i know some are floating a referendum which eould stop the project and force the state to use all already funded monies to fix roads and build more water reservoirs in state so less chance of drought occuring.plus the feds might be looking into where the federal funds went which were given to the state for the project. May probably find that funds were sent to other state projects. Federal fraud charges may follow. Need to get Mr. Cox elected...but the democratic media machine is ignoring the race...hoping that states democratic inertia comes to bear.(no pun intended).
“Lets vote it OUT and vote Cox in. With the excitement of the gas tax repeal, we will surely get a bunch of conservatives out to vote.”
I think so!
The Jacka$$ Rat State Senator from Fullerton whom was the deciding vote to increase the Gas tax got his butt handed to him in the recall election and it wasn’t even close.
The money, most if not all, would never have gone for road repair...
Just like here in SC.
All the roads are in horrid shape.
didn’t they already take out bonds?
Are you really expecting honesty and transparency from the California government??
I am wondering if tax payers are on the hook regardless.
Of course we are!
Good points.
California also instituted a global warming tax on gas a few years ago. That tax was estimated to be about 25 cents a gallon, but nobody knows for sure, because it fluctuates based on world financial markets, specifically including the costs of carbon credits and carbon offsets somehow.
Another issue which is getting to California voters, is that the state ended the fiscal year with over $6 billion in the bank. And, many voters are wondering, with the economy getting better and tax revenue clearly ahead of what had been forecast, why exactly do we need yet another tax?
It sure would be nice if they used some of the many billions of dollars of rainy day funds just lying there waiting for conniving leftists to steal..
or maybe kill the Hi-$pin railjob and use those funds to serve as many tax paying road using Californians instead of only a few and not even in the foreseeable future.
But No. This is California.. where brain rot is now the most available commodity and corrupt politicos are a dime a dozen.
