“The Gallant Men” was a TV show.
Yes, I remember the “Gallant Men’’ I believe that was an ABC show which oddly only ran for one season. I thought “Rat Patrol’’ was rather silly however I did watch “12 O’Clock High’’, another ABC show(as was “Combat’’).
Yah, Rat Patrol was silly to a young kid like me,
a precursor to the inane ‘A Team’, if you will. I can’t
picture Gallent Men, it just came to mind.
My siblings and I were all Twilight Zone fans. Our dad
was never a fan but it turns out in the 1980s my dad
learns that Rod Serling was in his same Airborne regiment.
Serling died in ‘74 which was before they formed
Divisional and regimental alum associations. Serling was
definitely in the 511th PIR/11th AB but a biographer
claimed he was on the boxing team. My dad was on the team
but didn’t know Rod Serling and neither did the
boxing coach, Lt Foster Arnett, a good friend of my
dad.
I believe the 11th. Airborne saw combat in the South Pacific.
Correct.
The 11th AB was mostly held in reserve on New Guinea. They
entered Leyte by amphibious assault and swept across
the island. They entered Southern Luzon below Manila
with a parachute jump on Tagaytay Ridge and a amphibious
attack on Nagsubu Bay,
With help from Filipino guerillas elements of the 11th AB
performed the most successful rescue operation in
the history of the US military. Over 2100 mostly
American civilian POWs were rescued from
a Japanese prison camp in the Los Banos Raid
on Feb 23 1945.
Im not far from you in middle tennessee
I assume youre Gadsden to Fort Payne and Mentone or Valley Head

That would be a tough call
Since Im a Mississippi native Im more culturally Texan than Appalachian
But still most Tennessean have kinfolks who migrated from Tennessee and Kentucky originally
I just drove back from Los Angeles thru Texas all across
You leave New Mexico and hit Texas its southern accents and sweet tea again
