I have my health insurance issue solved. I think I have enough money save (who knows how much you need). It is what it is and I'm as ready as I'm going to be.
For those of you who are retired or have recently retired. Can you send some tips my way?
Any and all notes will be appreciated and heavily considered.
Thanks to you all for your help.
Peace be with you.
Get ready to work harder than you’ve ever worked in your life! Decades of Honey-do project all seem to need to be accomplished in the first week of retirement.
Former HR director here. Have no debt. Find something you have always wanted to do (that hopefully pays) and do it. Keep old friends and family close. Don’t drink or eat too much. Exercise and stay away from politics.
Learn to love Spam and Tuna Salad in those individual foil packets for the half of the month when there’s no money.
Stay busy stay active read write stay sane
I like Spam. Have all my life.
Be prepared for the barrage of senior “offers” that will be coming your way. If it looks too good to be true ...
Check out Morningstar for good financial advise. For example https://www.morningstar.com/articles/870518/do-you-have-enough-to-retire.html
Good luck to you. Live long and prosper. Be aware that you have to sign up for Medicare when you turn 65. If you don’t, you’ll face a lifetime penalty. for the B part. (My mom paid the penalty for over 30 years.
What ever you have been putting off doing until your retire.. do it, do it now.
Shoulder pork and ham.
Retire? Why? To wait to die, doing nothing? I will never retire. I will work until the day I die. Not what you wanted to hear but take it for what it is worth. Movement keeps you alive; the day you stop moving, well, take it from there.....
Move to AZ.
Enjoy the time “off” for a few months - then get involved in something important. Man was not designed for a hammock - it will kill you.
I once saw a statistic from a major corp. - those who retired at 55 lived about 25 years more - those that retired at 60 about 15 - those forced to retire at 65 less than a year. The assumption was they did not have anything meaningful to get involved in. It really is important.
But take your time - at least for a few months!
ENJOY!!
Keep very busy and be sure to rest a lot.
The loss of social life from your previous work environment is pretty drastic.
Join a social club. Meetup.com is a great way to meet people who share your interests.
You d9nt know how to retire!
Every day will be like Saturday. Except Sunday.
