$800 dollars- installation isn’t hard- or if you hire someone, shouldn’t cost much
I paid about half that here in SC for a tankless installed, but I still thought that was highway robbery.
What I wanted was a NG tank water heater like I had before, but apparently they jacked the prices on those to make the tankless ones look good.
At least I can still get electric ones for my rentals without spending a mint.
That is WAY too much.
Wow. I complained about 700 for new water heater, installation and had to reroute tubes. You are getting screwed.
There is always a discount for cash.
L
Electric or gas hot water heater runs about $400 with $200 for the install. So for less than $700 here. Obviously YMMV.
excessive
If I went the tankless route it would have been over $5K.
hope you have soft water. . .
How much for just the water heater itself? I had one replaced last month and called a plumber and he quoted me $1100 for the WH and another $900 for installation, “code upgrades”, and disposal. Then, I called Home Depot and got the exact same WH for $600 (which is probably where the plumber would have bought it and then applied the markup) and installation and delivery for another $400. They quoted me $500 for the install, but when their plumber arrived, he told me that I didn’t need the “code upgrade” after all and crossed it off the quote.
I am in equally blue Maryland.
I’m the opposite of you I guess. I live out in the boonies, fly over country, red state. I collected “junk” water heaters and made one good one out of three “junk” ones.
FREE
Now I paid $3800 for mine. This is what I got ...
80 gallon tank, solar collector on roof, all plumbing to roof, and auto valves to manage solar stuff.
Then utility gave me $1000 back, net $2800
It also never uses the electrical backup 4500 watt element. Maybe 5 days a year.
If you live in New York it is an average price (sadly) All the requirements for workers comp insurance, liability, insurance to cover tools, permit fees (yes in NY you cannot get a permit without showing proof of WC and liability now)
And on and on and on and on.
If you have any mechanical apptitude the YouTube videos are your friend. I’m mechanical, but not a diesel mechanic. Thanks to YouTube, I do all my own work on my Dodge Cummins.
I paid $1550.00 last fall for purchase & installation of a 40 gallon natural gas water heater here in southern Maryland.
My neighbor had another contractor, less highly rated, charge him close to 3K last year.
The guys out here today have hundreds of raves on the net, so I at least hope I get my money’s worth.
OUCH!!!!!!! Had a new one ,400 for the tank and paid 2 neighbors to put it in..Total cost 630...Helps that I have a neighbor who loves to fix things and he used to run an apartment complex before retirement...He fixed everything in those apartments..I will be bummed the day he moves or dies...
