I agree. I also suspect that it was not just larger family sizes but also more desirable mates outside of the family. If you are a hunter-gather and are marring off your daughters, do you want them to go to another clan of hunter-gathers that are barely getting by, or to the well-fed farm family in the valley with a bunch of sons?
