Why would you feel the need to add the descriptor “transgender”? A human being was killed in a freak accident.
They also referred to the cougar as "starving." That implies that it was hungry so it deserved to kill the transgender.
Your question is relevant to a lot of idiots. Transgender’s got nothing to do with a lot of things, but certain groups who say their orientation “has very little to do with who we are” actually can’t stop pointing out their orientation. One notable exception: heterosexuals.
As to your other point, clearly this was a Trump-cat.

Anytime, anyplace, any circumstance of note where a LBTQ...XYZ pops up as part of some news item, the brand descriptor must, in the view of cultural marxists, be included and elevated in order to hammer the viewing society with the targeted normalization.
This cultural subversion aims to make these descriptors ‘normal’ after a generation (25 years), as part of the defined culture of society. As children grow and hear ‘gay’, ‘lesbian’, ‘transgender’, etc. over and over again, the prepubescent to puberty ‘acclimation’ forms an acceptance in the id that these things ‘were always there’ from childhood. Then, if there is any religious teaching to the contrary, it must be by instinctive reaction held to be suspicious.
