Of course for me movies are escape. I don't go to movies for "education". That's what books are for, and if I want to learn about, oh, "oppression" or something, that's where I go.
My critique of a movie is simple, though some may call it simplistic. There is a good guy, a bad guy, and a girl. At the end of the movie The good guy has the girl, and the bad guy is dead. The more the movie deviates from the, the less I like it.
Now, if the writer and director want to add social lessons, I don't care, as long as the film has these bare bones. I either accept or ignore said lesson as my education and experience instruct me.
What I can't stand are those movies that either have no true protagonist, or the protagonist is a bad guy, IMO.
And that's my opinion of movies.
