FWIW, I have no way of knowing the inner secrets, but there is a very well known and highly thought of college sorority named Chi Omega. It’s emblem is an Owl.
I’ve known some very extraordinarily wonderful women who belonged to that organization. Perhaps, as at Rice, in the founding there could have been some skullduggery behind the choice in the way of the elites saying, “Let’s put this over on the little Christian normies! ...and get them to respect our Owl!”
Of course nowadays not sure how the culture is in those organizations.
