Just days after the tragic death of fashion icon Kate Spade, new government research sheds light on a disturbing increase in suicides in the United States. The report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that suicide rates have risen dramatically across most of the country in the past three decades.
Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S. and is one of just three leading causes that are on the rise.
The rate of suicide in the U.S. rose nearly 30 percent between 1999 and 2016.
In 2016, nearly 45,000 Americans age 10 or older died by suicide.
While prevention efforts mainly focus on identifying and providing treatment for people with mental illness, experts say suicide is rarely caused by a single factor.
In fact, researchers found that more than half of people who died by suicide during the study period did not have a known diagnosed mental health condition at the time of death.
"Our data suggests that suicide is more than a mental health issue," Schuchat said. "We think that a comprehensive approach to suicide is what's needed. If we only look at this as a mental health issue, we won't make the progress that we need."
The study serves as a reminder, she says, that if someone in your life recently lost a job, ended a relationship, or is having some other life crisis, it's important to reach out.
"Those are the times to really support each other," Schuchat said.
The report found that firearms were the most common method of suicide for both those with and without mental illnesses.

It was 1969. Kate invited me to join her for a gathering at the home of her friend, Lila Karp. They called the assemblage a consciousness-raising-group, a typical communist exercise, something practiced in Maoist China. We gathered at a large table as the chairperson opened the meeting with a back-and-forth recitation, like a Litany, a type of prayer done in Catholic Church. But now it was Marxism, the Church of the Left, mimicking religious practice:
Why are we here today? she asked. To make revolution, they answered. What kind of revolution? she replied.
The Cultural Revolution, they chanted.
And how do we make Cultural Revolution? she demanded.
By destroying the American family! they answered.
How do we destroy the family? she came back.
By destroying the American Patriarch, they cried exuberantly.
And how do we destroy the American Patriarch? she replied.
By taking away his power!
How do we do that?
By destroying monogamy! they shouted.
How can we destroy monogamy?
Their answer left me dumbstruck, breathless, disbelieving my ears. Was I on planet earth? Who were these people? By promoting promiscuity, eroticism, prostitution and homosexuality! they resounded. They proceeded with a long discussion on how to advance these goals by establishing The National Organization of Women. It was clear they desired nothing less than the utter deconstruction of Western society. The upshot was that the only way to do this was to invade every American institution. Every one must be permeated with The Revolution: The media, the educational system, universities, high schools, K-12, school boards, etc.; then, the judiciary, the legislatures, the executive branches and even the library system. It fell on my ears as a ludicrous scheme, as if they were a band of highly imaginative children planning a Brinks robbery; a lark trumped up on a snowy night amongst a group of spoiled brats over booze and hashish...
Yep.
And Ritalin and the other so-called ADHD drugs can lead to even worse things.
I used to laugh at the late-night TV commercials, sometimes one following the other immediately, one pushing some new ‘miracle’ drug that might cure some minor annoyance, and at the end five seconds of rapid fire warnings about how it might kill you, make you insane or something worse than the original problem...
.....And then sometimes mere seconds later, some ambulance chasing lawyer firm advertising for people who took that very same drug to join their class action suit...
But now I just shake my head in dismay.
Written by Kate Spade’s sister, right?
And suicide is painless/it brings on many changes/and I can take or leave them if I please...
Of course she was associated with the Clinton’s and for ‘some reason’ that creates a high rate of suicide especially for people that know too much.
No.
Living in a rural area that is a snowy frozen icescape in winter will both raise your likelihood of being depressed and alone long enough to off yourself while at the same time drastically reducing the likelihood that African Americans will choose to live where you are.
I say to someone who wants to off himself, go ahead. Do it yourself. Bye.
But, polluting the medical profession, which is supposed to be dedicated to HEALING, into an instrument of death is an abomination.
Kate Millett. Famous Feminist. I googled it.

Today it’s Anthony Bourdain.
Im thinking this increase in suicide has to be related to drugs, even for the mass killers. A mental health professional told me that there is a point in time, while starting or stopping these drugs, the patient feels empowered to do things they normally would not do.
Physiological: SSRIs. (Oh, but, free market always good!)
Spiritual: abandoning the Creator and his Law.
