Since bear-baiting’s a European “sport”- mostly of people with wealth who could afford to lose livestock- the mastiffs originated in Europe, not in Africa .I would think then that mastiffs and pits would be found in former colonies like S Africa, but not elsewhere. In Muslim areas dogs are kept for protection by some but are generally considered unclean, so those places should have few records of pit attacks if any.
Other parts of the world seem satisfied with cockfighting and cockfighting is a more affordable “sport” popular among the poor since a farm only needs one rooster and extra roosters are useless, injurious to themselves and to the hens. The loser gets eaten, so there’s no waste.
Weren’t pit bulls also used against rebellious slaves as well?
