I can only imagine what would happen in Hawaii if there was a massive eruption.

Very different types of volcanoes. The volcano in Guatemala is a stratovolcano, which is much more prone to violent eruptions with pyroclastic flows. Hawaii is a shield volcano which tends to be lava flows which are less likely to catch people miles away from the volcano.

Last week I read where there were some folks a bit worried about debris covering up and blocking steam vents in Hawaii. This would not cause a massive eruption but it could potentially hurl some very large volcanic rocks a good distance.

Keep in mind, I have an elementary knowledge of volcanoes and I don't claim to be an expert of any sort.
