Videos and pictures at link. I believe the death toll will rise and we may never know the final count.
I can only imagine what would happen in Hawaii if there was a massive eruption.

Volcan de Feuego is belching smoke most days. I go to Antigua for vacation every year. Due to the sulfur in the ash, a friend of mine there said you need to brush the ash off your car before it turns into acid in the rain.
I pray everyone can recover from this. It seems Hawaii is worse.

I can only imagine what would happen in Hawaii if there was a massive eruption. Very different types of volcanoes. The volcano in Guatemala is a stratovolcano, which is much more prone to violent eruptions with pyroclastic flows. Hawaii is a shield volcano which tends to be lava flows which are less likely to catch people miles away from the volcano.

Covered with ash like Pompeii statues? Wouldn’t 1300 degrees reduce the bodies to ash anyway?

I think the danger is that this eruption may be a precursor to an even bigger eruption. And it can happen in Central America, a part of the world with a similar tectonic plate movement as the Indonesian Archipelago, an area known for HUGE eruptions.

Prayers for those who are suffering and for those who have been taken.
Brings to mind an old Guatemalan saying "The country is going from Guatemala to Guatepeor". Or in English from Guate bad to Guate worse.

The photos I saw are reminiscent of the Pompeii plaster bodies. Drudge has a pic up of children laying dead next to an adult covered in ash. Tragic.
