ICYMI: Boulder Just Banned Ownership of AR-15 Rifles

Well, this is no shocker. Bolstered by the Supreme Court’s inaction on answering the question concerning the constitutionality of assault weapons bans, slices of Blue America have taken it to its limits—and by limits I mean passing ordinances that are totally unconstitutional. In Deerfield, Illinois, the village has banned the ownership of AR-15 rifles and other firearms liberals find scary. Yet, it goes beyond that, because the definition of an assault weapon (yes, I know not a real term) is so broad. Essentially any firearm that uses a detachable magazine that holds more than ten rounds is a so-called assault weapon in this Chicago suburb. So, we’re not just talking about rifles, handguns are included as well—and this is a gun ban law. These weapons must be transferred out of the village, destroyed, or turned over to the police. Non-compliance is a $250-$1,000/day fine. It’s unlawful to be a gun owner in Deerfield. Yes, that’s unconstitutional, but they’re not alone. Boulder passed a similar law last month.

I intentionally live outside of Boulder and Boulder County. I live about 1/4 mile outside Boulder County. I don’t want to live there even though I don’t have an AR-15. I prefer 30 cal.

Just what difference does that make?

You can’t even find a place to park there....

Boulder is being sued too. Lets hope they lose, but with the courts here I somewhat doubt it.

The beauty of the AR15 is that it is available in many different calibers.

Does it hold a detachable magazine that holds over 10 rounds? Sounds like it would also ban the Glock 19 pistol and many others.

AR-10 would work. Well outside the city/county.

Tie a string from the trigger guard to the magazine. Problem solved, now it’s always attached. /j

I would expect bad consequences from this. There is a Colorado State law that prohibits cities and counties from enacting their own gun laws that violate state law which this does. In my opinion, a State licensed CCW holder carrying a Colorado legal Glock 19 that is pulled over by Boulder police department would expect to be bankrupted in court and put in jail (robbed and kidnapped) and would morally be justified in using lethal self defense. The politicians and others enforcing this may have similar issues, I have not thought it through yet.
