Charlie Watts, legendary drummer of The Rolling Stones is celebrating his 77th birthday this weekend.
He's preparing for a live show on Tuesday with the boys in Manchester.
“Ginger Baker, now he is the real miracle.
The great Ginger Baker, best drummer in history, is unable to drum due to arthritis. He’s 80 easy.
The modern drummer that kind of reminds me of Charlie is Phil Selway of Radiohead, guy’s just a machine.
So many great tracks on that album. Live With Me was one of the first bass parts I learned starting out, and I still love it. Another fave is You Got the Silver which is the first song Keith sang lead on.
My Favorite Too!

Thanks! I used to drive my Dad crazy learning that song!

I always wondered had Brian Jones stayed clean and in the band what direction the Stones would have taken.
Thanks for mentioning that. I’ve not seen it yet!
I don’t think the main factor was whether Brian stayed clean or not. It was that Brian couldn’t write songs, and Jagger/Richards could.
When Jagger/Richards started writing songs, that changed them from being a cover band, which they were in the beginning under Brian’s leadership.
My first thought when I saw this...
Drug related AIDS.
Second thought...
Lung cancer.
“Keith Richards is still alive!”
That’s what they want you to think! He’s been dead for the last 40 years, the embalmer just did a fantastic job!
Background
Watts and Bill Wyman were in the original Rolling Stones. They asked Jagger, and later Richards to join.
Watts is actually the picture of the well dressed English gentleman. The English version of GQ shows him in the company of nobles and the like.He is also very rich having purchased artwork with his money which has increased in value steadily.
The story
I believe this was sometime in the 90’s. The Stones are on tour. The show is over, and Watts has returned to his room. Jagger has a huge party in his room. Somebody calls Watts and tells him Mick wants him to come down to the party. Watts tells him to go to hell.
Mick now calls Watts directly and yells, I want my F-—ing drummer to come down here and have a drink with me.”
Watts gets up, shaves, showers, picks out his clothes and goes down stairs. When Mick opens the door, Charlie punches him in the mouth and says, “I'm not your f___ing drummer, you're my f___ing singer.” He then goes back upstairs and goes to bed.
Punching Mick Jagger in the mouth is cool, but taking the time to shave, shower and properly accessorize - that is freaking priceless!
Maybe Johnny is looking that way for a role.
