Sunday on CNNs 'State of the Union,' former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Pree Bharara joined Dana Bash to discuss President Trumps recent pardon of Dinesh D'Souza, who said Bharara "screwed" him, and if Trump has the power to pardon himself.
About Trump's recent use of the presidential pardon power, Bharara said: "You are supposed to pardon people because they are worthy of being pardoned, not because you're trying to please anyone in your political base or you're trying to spite anyone who you might think is your political adversary. And I think it's a sad commentary on the power, which, by the way, can be taken away by the American people in the future -- and if you abuse the pardon power in a particular way, there comes a point where Congress can take action as well."
...snip...
Part of the problem here is, with respect to Dinesh D'Souza or anyone else, there is just a process you are supposed to follow. And it is true that the president has a broad grant of authority, especially in the pardon arena.
But, generally speaking, so people understand that that power is being exercised fairly and equitably and on the merits, and not because of whim or spite or partisan advantage, you go through the pardon attorney, and you get the opinions of the people who engage in the prosecution, and you talk to the judge, and there's a deliberation. And then the president can choose to disregard it.
By now pardoning a number of people who are his political allies...he's making it clear that he is prepared to pardon anyone for any reason without any review.

how did this guy even have a job in Trump’s administration back in Jan 2017, and how did he keep that job for over a year when he did this crap during Obama’s reign?
Trump doesn’t need to pardon himself you idiot Preet. One thing he will never do is pardon a criminal creep like you.
The president can pardon someone because he likes the color yellow or because its Friday.
I think Preet is the one who authorized the entry of the famous “Russian lawyer” who met with Trump Jr. She was here supposedly to work with Fusion, and in fact did meet with Fusion twice the day of her meeting with Trump Jr.
What the hell is a Preet Bharfarfar?
Who is gonna pardon Preet? POS
If Sessions is not going to indict Hillary, maybe Trump should just up and pardon her. Make her madder than a wet hen
Hitlery needs to get nailed on state charges so that she can’t be pardoned.
The goal of these leftists blabbering about President Trump pardoning himself is to give people the impression that Trump is a criminal and will eventually be convicted of crimes. Thus, needing to pardon himself. It’s utter nonsense, of course.
President Trump has committed no crimes and the ever-churning Mueller investigation will not find any, despite leftist’s fantasies.
This ‘Trump may pardon himself’ line is total rubbish based on a demonstrably false premise.
So Marc Rich, a fugitive from US justice was pardoned at the very last minute of the Clinton Administration, on the recommendation of Deputy Attorney General, one Eric Holder. See here. In a subsequent administration Eric Holder became attorney general and appointed one Preet Baharara to his position as US Attorney to the Southern District of new York. I'm sure they agonized for years over Rich's pardon, and of course the pardon had nothing to do with Rich's large donation to the Clinton Library. Much. Holder deliberately went around the US pardon attorney.
Pity someone hasn’t curbstomped Preeck Bwahaha....
When I want some no-name preeck's opinion about the exercise of the powers of the American Presidency, I'll beat it out of his face with a nail-studded baseball bat.
It's the sound a wet burrito makes in your shorts when it gets accidentally "sharted" out...
Cookie-Cutter Conservatives [3Cs] once eulogized that man as a hard but fair prosecutor. It nauseated me then. I was right to be nauseated.
Comey’s accomplice chimes in.
You *do* understand that Preet Bharara was a holdover from the Obama administration, right? And that he was eventually fired?
Have you ever been put in charge of a large corporation? Do you understand the concept of prioritization? What are the things that Trump accomplished first in 2017? What is he focusing on now? Which things will take a lot of time, given the fact that he not only has the DemocRATs fighting him, but the Bush League Republicans in his own Party?
Don't tell me you're another one of those Veruca Salt Freepers who whine and moan about Trump not getting things done fast enough!
