McCain on 'Roseanne' cancellation: ABC holds employees to higher standard than the White House

Since I’m noticing that several posts are being made denouncing John McCain as if he said this, I want to make sure this is made clear to everyone.

The person who defended ABC’s decision, tastelessly I should add, is NOT John McCain, it’s his granddaughter McCain. John McCain AFAIK had nothing to do with this beyond being related to her. So, please, do NOT act like John McCain was the one who said this. He can be blamed for a lot of stuff, but not this one.

I’d rather read posts saying that than, “oh, Meghan said it? That’s ok, then”.

I never said it was ok because Meghan said it. What does bother me is people making fools of themselves by only reading a headline and then making a comment that shows their ignorance. It makes FReepers look as stupid as liberals.

Actually, the intended insult involved species, not race. Maybe the Left will now embark on a "speciesist" obsession, in their brave new world, where nobody is allowed to insult a recognizable Leftist.

Agreed there. I dislike it that Meghan McCain said it myself, and she should be scolded for it. But I would prefer it if people at least realized it was Meghan who said it, rather than jumping in and acting as though her grandpa John McCain was the one who said it. That just makes us look like idiots if we blame her grandpa instead of blaming the one actually responsible.

Sometimes, I really wish that whoever does the titles of these articles makes sure to specify WHICH member of the family said it specifically to avoid stuff like this, instead of simply identifying them by last name in the title. At least there, it would cut down on a lot of these problems.

And don’t get me wrong, John McCain’s definitely done quite a few things that he deserves blame over, but the whole thing about defending ABC’s treatment of Roseanne’s not one of them.

Fine. Daughter. My point is is that people should stop acting like John McCain said it when he really didn’t. It just makes us look like idiots. If you’re going to blame John McCain for any bad things he did or said, it has to be stuff he himself actually said and did. At worst, the only thing you can blame him for is failing as a parent.

As stated before, I stand corrected. But it doesn’t change my point, that we don’t blame John McCain for the defense of Roseanne Barr’s firing. He can be blamed for a lot of things, but not this one. His daughter is to be blamed. At most, the only thing he CAN be blamed for in this instance is failing his duties as a father.
