The Moron in the Tesla was using autopilot on the part of Laguna Canyon Road South of the Toll Road? The traffic down there is ridiculous. What a Maroon.

...

Not only that but cars are parked on the side of the road. People with lane assist in other makes of cars say that the lane markings in that area tend to steer the lane assist to the right toward the parked cars. Autopilot should not be used on that road. Driver error in this case.

All self-driving cars should be Smart Cars or smaller

Like what? The highway in that area is fairly straight, slightly curvy, but otherwise no different than any other divided highway.

If you’re talking about the pedestrian killed in Tempe by the Uber car, the car had the right of way.

So when cars are parked on the side of the highway, that's a big no no in a driverless car? Wow..

The autopilot technology is amazing and some of it may even be better than a good deal of human drivers.

That said, it is going to have to be (provably) way better than human drivers before it will be successful. And it will have to work in any condition - or at the very least determine when it is unable to continue and safely stop and park the car.

If it requires the driver to stay alert, keep their hands on the wheel, and pay attention the whole time, then it is really almost useless. The idea that someone can sit there and keep paying attention while not having to do anything for extended periods of time is ridiculous. It is much harder to sit there and pay attention when you aren’t having to actually control the car than when you are.

Until it is almost flawless (at least provably better than a human) the accident lawyers will ensure that it is not successful in practice.

So Driver Error will be the scapegoat for murderous AI vehicles. Since you can’t take AI to court.

Then why did the driverless car company settle for big dollars?

Highways don’t have parking spots on the side. They also don’t have turn lanes in the median, and they don’t have intersections, at least not highways where Autopilot is only supposed to be used.

Oh, no, we’ve called it the Back Seat Driver since the 50s.

...

How do you know it was for big dollars?

Did Uber admit fault or did they settle for the same reasons that many businesses settle out of court?

I have a funny feeling that the Driver is blaming autopilot when he was actually in control of the Car

I have a feeling that the driver wasn't even in control of himself. Dave? Dave's not here, man.

So, where would a driverless car drive if it can't drive on a roadh that has parked vehicles? ?? Just stay on the freeway huh? But in LA, ya got parked cars on both side of your on most of the freeways, 10 hours per day. ☺

I doubt that I'll ever trust any kind of automatic driving.

Why would they settle at all if they were not at fault in regards to the death of the pedestrian? Don’t these companies have conga-lines of attorneys?

If so, it was duly recorded in the car’s event recorder.
