A Tesla sedan in Autopilot mode crashed into a parked Laguna Beach Police Department vehicle Tuesday morning, authorities said.
The collision happened at 11:07 a.m. at 20652 Laguna Canyon Road, according to Laguna Police Sgt. Jim Cota. The officer was not in the cruiser at the time of the crash. The Tesla driver suffered minor injuries, but refused transportation to the hospital.
Thankfully there was not an officer at the time in the police car, Cota said. The police car is totaled.

This was no low impact collision. It knocked the police vehicle clear up over the curb...

In fact, it totaled the police vehicle.☺ Glad this wasn't a school bus stop with 20 kids standing around.

Looks like it hit the left rear side, so an officer in the driver’s seat would probably have been fine.

Let’s get the talking points straight. The Tesla autopilot functioned as designed. The Police car just appeared in front of the Tesla without warning. It wasn’t even in a marked crosswalk. It’s a dark stretch of road at night. (Now, now, don’t be a climate change denier and interject irrelevant facts about it being broad daylight). And, finally, it’s the police department’s fault for painting the car white so it would blend in with the sidewalk/clouds/snow. (And we all know that white police cars are racist).
Did I miss any?

No occupants were in the police vehicle. Lucky.
The last one recently killed a pedestrian and the,”Driverless smart car” never braked prior to impacts.

Yeah, it runs into a stationary parked vehicle!
What will the excuse be this time?

Maybe the pedestrian gave off the wrong vibes or something, may have had it comin’, for all we know.

The Moron in the Tesla was using autopilot on the part of Laguna Canyon Road South of the Toll Road? The traffic down there is ridiculous. What a Maroon.
I have a funny feeling that the Driver is blaming autopilot when he was actually in control of the Car. Seems a bit fishy to me.

I had a car a few years ago that had some kind of advanced cruise control.Basically it was claimed that you could set the speed and the car would remain at that speed and would automatically slow down and even stop completely if traffic required and, once conditions allowed,it would resume the pre-set speed.
I tried it once or twice and didn't like it at all.It was herky-jerkey and more than a bit scary. And the car in question was a well respected make...it wasn't some kind of Kia or Mitsubishi.
I doubt that I'll ever trust any kind of automatic driving.

Driver error. Autopilot isn’t designed to be used on a road like that.
