"We" aren't going anywhere. While I agree that space colonization is the only way for the species to survive an otherwise fatal planetary disaster, it's going to be a very long-term project. We need a couple of things first: a destination, a means of transportation, and a means of extracting the resources necessary for a population of air-breathing, pooping mammals to achieve at least sustainability and better, growth, because that's how biology works.
Every colonization project in human history has met these prerequisites. And right now even the baby steps look like tremendous leaps. Doesn't mean we can't take them, but it does mean we'd better not imagine it's going to be easy.
