Growing up as an Army brat in 1950s Japan, I took the train and streetcar often.
On one trip with a family friend, he mentioned there had been reports of pick pockets on the line we were on.
This was confirmed when a Japanese pocket picker picked the wrong guys pocket. The victim was a Japanese police detective who karate chopped the picker into a sniveling mass on the train car floor.
