Texas man shocked as 7-foot snake wrapped around front door grille moves in for a 'closer look'

A Texas man who had just moved into a new home in Morgan's Point Resort was shaking in his boots after a surprise guest showed up at his front door Tuesday.

A nearly 7-foot reptile, later identified as a Texas rat snake, was coiled around the grille on the homeowner's door. As the man went to turn his key in the door, the snake moved.

For goodness’ sake; how is this news? Rat snakes are harmless and docile. I have friends in Texas that send pictures of 8-foot rattlesnakes in their back yard, and it doesn’t make the news. I just cleaned my Japanese rat snake’s cage yesterday and am right now going to feed her some more quail eggs.

I received several last summer on my work collaboration application. I am no longer with that company and didn’t save the photos for myself. Aren’t they common in Austin, Texas in the summer anyway? I thought everyone had them in their yards at least once each summer.
