This is a reason why I think we need a barrier at the border because not only is our current system not working, a barrier would decrease physical confrontations and danger for both sides - particularly if the wall had see through capability. Our agents are putting their bodies on the line, but as we can see, an illegal immigrant also got killed.
Highly unlikely that he “just shot her”.
Highly likely that the mob of illegal alien assaulted him, and he shot.
Attacks by multiple assailants are a form of deadly force, even if they do not have weapons in hand.
More people are murdered with hands and feet in the United States than with rifles.

In any case, it sounds like we need to change the rules of engagement a bit, and join the rest of the world where you have hostile borders - you shoot on sight, if your commands are not listened to. And no, I don’t want a bloodbath down there either, so we LET THEM KNOW, if it means buying a week of radio advertising on every station south of the border, so be it (and it probably costs next to nothing).
Bottom line needs to be: We won’t shoot if you LISTEN AND OBEY, but we will otherwise.

I doubt a 15 year veteran of the border patrol would shoot anyone without being in fear for their life. A new scared novice maybe, a seasoned veteran not likely imo. The incident was in daylight hours and not in an extremely remote area, time will tell more details.
