From the article I do not find any citation or link to the source of the statements claiming a mandate for supplying condoms. WND should do a better job or “reporting” and besides reporting claims it should supply the actual source of the claims.

Look up the conservative boy’s movement. It’s called Life Trails I believe. They are like the old BSA.

Are there female camp followers for Boy Scout events? Why would they need condoms?

If the condoms are for homosexual sex, then who would send their young male child to such an event?

Jeez.

We’ve had 3-4 new kids join our Trail Life USA troop this month. Parents and boys want adventure with a strong moral Christian backbone.

One of mine earned Eagle two weeks before our entire troop made the move to Trail Life. The other one dropped BSA as a Life Scout and went on to earn the Freedom Award from Trail Life.

It is far more difficult than earn.

There are too many Eagle factory troops. I know a young boy who earned Eagle at 14, yet can barely tie his shoes. Mommy and daddy propel him along.

Amen! Trail Life is definitely the best way to go for parents with kids.

It’s a shame the liberals have decided to destroy an American icon like the BSA.

When I participated (as the 2nd assistant scoutmaster/ medic for a U.S. troop) in the XVIth World Scout Jamboree in Appin, NSW, Australia (33 miles SW of Sydney), during 12/30/1987-01/07/1988, I was very surprised to discover that some nation's boy scout programs had already gone co-ed (i.e., boys and girls in the same troop). There were many girls participating in the jambo - I specifically remember seeing French, Greek, Italian, and Norwegian troops with girl members attending. The minimum age for BSA Scouts to attend was 13.

Around day 8 of the jambo I spent half the day on an adventure trail with an Australian scoutmaster. His Australian troop had been augmented with a smaller Dutch contingent which had girl members. He said he saw the girls taking their birth control pills during breakfast. He also said that while on an earlier visit to the jambo infirmary (field hospital) he was told by attending staff that up to that point during the jambo there had been ~40 requests by girl participants for pregnancy tests and that ~ half were positive.

Like BSA, I presumed most, if not all nations (there were 84 represented at the jambo with an overall total of 14,434 scouts officially registered), had troops touring Australia and New Zealand for a week+ before arriving for the start of the jambo. Given the test method of that time, it was certain that these girls had already been impregnated before starting on their world tour.

The Australian scoutmaster also said that the infirmary had a supply of condoms available to scouts if they asked for them, but the Scout Association of Australia (the host organization for this jambo) did not advertise this fact to the jambo participants. The World Organization of the Scout Movement retains oversight of all world jambos.

Almost forgot. There was a beer garden on the jambo grounds that was restricted for adult scouters only (don't remember if the minimum age was 18 or 21).

My church gave up sponsorship of its Scout troop a number of years ago. The policy to admit gay scouts and gay adult supervisors was too much of a potential liability issue which we couldn’t just ignore. This was in light of numerous multi-million dollar lawsuits against the Catholic diocese here for pedohile priests. Virtually 100% of those incidents were homosexual. Also our state has abolished the statute of limitations for bringing such suits, so you could be potentially still be liable for something that happened many years ago your church had no knowledge of. It would only take one of those suits to bankrupt our church and we were not willing to take that kind of a risk with an organization whose morals and standards no longer aligned with ours.

What a sad but prudent turn of events. I think all of us who loved the organization and what it stood for are just horrified at what has been allowed to happen. May God bless the survivors of abuse, and any leaders who find other ways to help young boys become upstanding Christian men.

Luckily, freepers do the research the media won't always do, and they share it:

• freeper drago posted the link to the WOSM Guidelines for the hosting of the World Scout Jamboree at post 54,

• at post 59, freeper Mr Radical copied out the guideline concerning condoms,

• and I have just re-supplied the links.
