1. Timothy Manley is nuts.
2. A Great Dane, which can weigh up to 200 pounds, as a service animal?
3. I'm all for the airlines imposing sanity on this 'service animal' business.

My choice for a “Service Animal” would be an Octopus!
Very intelligent, able to solve problems and is not a noise problem.
Also able to take up less room, compacting his body, no bones.

“...Michelle Guido, Orlando Police Department spokeswoman, said the incident report has been handed over to the FBI, which is handling the investigation since the altercation happened on the plane.”

I was amused to note that the PoliceWOMAN was a Guido. FReepers from the Northeast will likely know why I think it’s funny.

I rarely have problems with the animals themselves. Its the owners that usually need dealing with.

That said unless the animals is a near to immediate threat, you don’t just trivially punch other folks animals.

This waste of space is lucky the Great Dane hid instead of taking him apart. I once saw a trained Irish Wolfhound (about the same size as a Great Dane) kill an untrained pitbull whose owner was threatening a friend of mine. Took about 2 seconds.

This fool is lucky if he just ends up in jail.

PS I’m allergic to dog dander, too. But you suck it up. Have helped raise two wolves. They’d have just killed this puke if he hit me. Had to call one off when someone just threatened me - but she was well trained and obeyed. If contact would have happened? Doubt she’d have backed down. (She was mad at me for several weeks for calling her off.)

Do you know what the dog was trained to assist the deaf woman with? It doesn't matter what the dog weighed if it is a certified service animal and approved for travel by the airline, also I doubt it was 200# if it hid under a seat, sounds more like a youngster and it would have served the ass right if it bit him. I know if some ASS attacked me my ESA would have torn him up, but then my little guy is only 150#.

While I agree that too many people are abusing the service animal rules, the only animal that was out of control in this story isn't just nuts, he's friggin dangerous and should be court ordered to get a psych evaluation. He has dangerous anger issues and self control issues.

I’m sick and tired of nebulous service animals. I propose that Congress prepare a law that requires Legitimate service animals be clearly identified on their vests exactly what legitimate service they perform, within a limited pantheon of services. Any animals with vest that read “Service Dog” etc. with no clearly demarcated service are subject to expulsion from whatever building they are in.

Comfort animals are not allowed in public areas. Get a teddy bear.
