You have to pay to use them.Copyright

They also SUE people who use the images unknowingly...or who continue to use a licensed image after the weirdly timed licenses expire. . . for a lot of money.

Some graphic artist prepared a webpage for my office on spec, thinking to present it to us without even asking if we were interested. He use ⅛th of a Getty image of generic grassy hillside for a background. We told him we weren't interested. He'd put it up on his private website to show us on a cold call.

Three years later Getty was demanding $1840 from US for the use of their image that was up for less than a week as near as we could tell, because our name was on it, even though the website was not even registered to us. It took FOUR YEARS amidst escalating demands and threats of Federal lawsuits from them and the involvement of our attorney to get them to cease and desist.

Getty stalks businesses and individuals who use their images with threats and intimidating tactics, demanding payment. They put their images up on "free" image sites but with hidden licensing in the meta data that states after a short use you MUST pay to continue use it, entrapping innocent users who think it's free forever.

Trust me, FR and JR don't need that headache, so don't ever post a Getty image.

Holy crap. What a business model. Sounds like they stay in business by sueing people. You don't have to worry about me, Swordy. I couldn't post a Getty Image pic if ISIS took my mom hostage. .

I was almost sued for the use of 3 seconds of video of the Pope,I had verbal permission from the station, the Order and as a follow up to call a certain number.Turns out it was copyrighted and none of them had the authority to give me permission.I had already paid an editor 2,000 to insert it into our intro and they wanted 4,000 for it.They also tried to get us for our opening music but I had written permission from the artist. You have to be very careful.
