A South Carolina high school is warning parents not to clap or cheer at graduation - or risk getting slapped with a $1,000 fine.
During a recent assembly at Greenville High School, students were shown a slide that told graduating seniors their parents and other family members could receive a citation for yelling at the upcoming graduation, the Greenville News reports.
'Since graduation is a dignified and solemn occasion, graduating seniors and their guests should behave appropriately,' the slide stated. 'Please ask your guests not to call out, cheer, whistle or applaud during the reading of names and presentation of diplomas.'
Students were told that the citation 'for family members yelling' is $1,030.

I would take that challenge.
Yeah, what law could that possibly violate?
Disturbing the peace?
I bet there will be massive amounts of cheering from the crowd.
LOL. Some really bad people will whoop, holler, clap and stomp feet for kids they dont like then watch them get fined.
The absolute worst offenders are the chronically loud mouthed look at me attention whores. Thats as much as Ill say.
.
Fine?
Charge it to the dust!
(the rain will settle it)
.
Thats what they do. They destroy everything in their path. Social locusts is what they are.
So they arrest an entire extended family for cheering? How would they make that stick?
Its to avoid the showboating end end-zone dancing that typically goes on and turns a two-hour ceremony into a three-hour teeth-pulling.
It’s on camera, them acting like goons.
Amen. Honestly, you’d think that graduating high school is the equivalent of curing cancer, the way some people carry on.
Oh and I agree with it too! They need to hold the applause till the end. No they have to cheer for each one and there might be like 500 students. Be all night. Fine them! Send them to jail. Do what ever this has to stop. Enough with the snowflakes.

I’ve seen this!!
Fines are a bit excessive, but Christ people have turned these things into circuses.

When in reality it means the state is no longer babysitting their budding criminal.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
Almost ten years ago I graduated from high school and I skipped the ceremony. I just wanted my diploma as proof that I didn’t have to ever go back to that sh*thole. I picked it up at the office and walked home enjoying a feeling of freedom.
Here in MD a lot of it is just a practice exercise for the next riot or American speaking event...
