I have already confessed that I am familiar with the method through study of the Bible and that Socrates [if that’s his REAL name] stole the method from God.
I am not saying you didn’t learn how to employ the Socratic method through the study of the Bible. It is our source book for Truth and wisdom. It is our guidebook for how to live and a map for historical events with the geography thrown in for extra measure.
Having said all that let me say that sometimes smart people come up with some extraordinary thoughts apart from God’s Holy book. Might Plato (or Socrates) have been somehow inspired to independently come up with the Socratic method? Most people I think would believe that is possible.
The Pentateuch along with most of the old testament might have been written but I don’t think Plato/Socrates or any of the ancient Greeks had access to them. They never mentioned any learning through them. Therefore, I don’t think Plato/Socrates stole it from God. I will say that all “Truth is God’s Truth,” A title of a book written by Arthur Holmes, but that’s not the same as stealing.
I read only acknowledgements to Socrates in those prior postings, and nothing about Plato. I wanted to know about how that came to be. There isn’t nothing new to report from what I’m hearing from you or mairdie and that’s OK.
