Had to take Texas History in school - quite an inspiring saga.

That NRA speech was amazing. Cried at the “Come and take it” story.

Dad took us all over the state when we were little. If there was a Historical Marker on the side of the road, we all piled out and read it and took in the flavor of whatever the story was at that location.

High fives to your pops!

Immersion “stuff” taken in on a spontaneous beat (road tripping), is apex learning.

For me- and my Texas story... I wasn’t born here- but I got here as soon as I could!

Worked in OK City too! Some of the hardest red clay ground known to man. Built a Pizza Inn, near Will Rogers Airport, circa- 1977.

What great memories and what a wonderful way your parents found to teach a love of history. My memory of family road trips involve Dairy Queen and Burma Shave signs.

Almost sounds like we had the same dad with the traveling and history. My dad worked construction till I was 10. We lived all across this great state but never outside it. By the time I got to Texas History class I knew the subject matter as most kids knew bedtime stories. Our family supper table discussions with my dad explaining current events based on historical facts is what led me to being a thinking adult. I can never hear our phrases, “Remember the Alamo,” “Come and Take It,” or “Remember Goliad” without Patriotic goosebumps and/or tears. It’s in the very fabric of who we are as Texans.
