Holy OSHA violations, NIKKman! As if the trash dumpster with the nylon choker rig isn’t bad enough, look at the boom tip and the load block. See how close together they are? That looks to be an inch away from a dangerous condition called “two-blocked”. From Tool Box Talks:
“Two-blocking is defined as, “ the condition in which the lower load block (or hook assembly) comes in contact with the upper load block (or boom point sheave assembly), seriously interfering with safe operation of the crane.” When two-blocking occurs, life threatening forces can be applied to the hoist or hook arrangement, either breaking the hoist line or disengaging the load straps from the hook. This may cause the load hook to fall or lose the load, which may imperil the lives of those working or standing directly below.”
Not suprising, though. There are 5.5 boatloads of video FAILS on UBoob showing all manner of accidents with cranes, tractors, trucks, excavating equipment etc. Most all of these vids are from the Middle East/Asia broadcasting to the world if one is searching for a lot of dumbassery, come here. To be fair, some of those chaps aren’t provided with the proper gear, and there is no recourse if they refuse the boss man’s orders. But a good deal shown in those videos are free will choices to be stupid.
Two weeks ago I finally encountered this Iranian national I work with. First thing was jumping his butt about leaving a bunch of test gear in my lab. Second was asking him about what was going on back home.
Now, this guy is OK, but always comes off as a little squirrely. He claimed no knowledge of anything out of joint back in Iran and asked me what I have heard. I told him about a lot of unrest and protests currently going on. His words to me were “nothing wrong”; his eyes said “yes there is.” He has family over there and his age would be where he knows nothing but rule from the Imams. Probably being REAL careful with me. Ingrained behavior.
