According to Aubrey Solomon, Twentieth Century Fox: A Corporate and Financial History, Scarecrow Press, 1989 p 258 (at least that’s the Wikipedia citation) the movie’s budget was $8,000,000. Star Wars (1977) budget was at least $11,000,000. https://tinyurl.com/ybl6eeej
