I have seen some here suggest an EMP detonation would not be as devastating as you suggest. I have a friend who was an admiral (only what...216 or so of them). He worked with Petraeus on the surge as a logistical guy. One day we got to talking about EMPs and his comment was that the detonation of just one would be a horrible event. People are naive if they think it would be relatively easy to restart your car, furnace, tv, radio, power grid etc. if one was detonated over the US.

I’m of the same opinion. I know from working with circuit boards that if circuits aren’t grounded - then just walking across the carpet can generate enough static charge to fry the chips.

Now I don’t doubt that most UL certified circuits are grounded and protected enough that it may not be every single circuit that is fried.

But many of these types of failures are what’s called “upset failures”. These are circuits that are damaged but continue to operate, but either fail long term with a reduced lifetime or operate with reduced efficiency/accuracy.

The carrington event in the 1800s melted telegraph lines. An EMP would likely not have that level of energy, but they didn’t have microchips and transistors then either.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I was shocked (and still am) when I watched the 1 hour interview on Levin on Fox News on 4/22/18.

The guest, Dr. Pry, laid it all out. If the grid goes down and stays down, there will be no food, water and fuel for most in the U.S.

If all or most of the big transformers are fried, it would take decades (best case) to repair.

Most would die horrible deaths, or live in constant peril from marauders and even cannibalism.

Obama’s ignoring this is TREASON.

And don’t forget: Even if there were no nuclear weapons in the world, the EMP is INEVITABLE from the Sun. The last major one was in the 19th century and literally melted heavy-duty components in the early build-out of electricity.
