ˈaksədənt
noun
1. an unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury.
"he had an accident at the factory"
synonyms: mishap, misadventure, unfortunate incident, mischance, misfortune, disaster, tragedy, catastrophe, calamity; technicalcasualty "an accident at work"
2. an event that happens by chance or that is without apparent or deliberate cause.
This wasn't an accident. This was caused by negligence.
It was an accident.
There are only 2 sides to the coin - intentional or unintentional. One is “on purpose”, the other an accident.
Period. Doesn’t matter why exactly it happened, stupid, risky, physics, whatever.
She should be punished, but probably not quite as severely as many would have it.
Too bad we don’t insist on severity for the real thugs in our every-day lives, who INTEND harm only to get their ways.
Exactly.
I say the same thing with regards to firearms, where there is really almost never a true accidental discharge. Now, *negligent dischages* are relatively common.
