Over engineered, unreliable, and overrated. There is a saying about a Tiger can knock out 5 Shermans the only problem there was a 6th Sherman. I saw a documentary about the Tiger and the engineers marveled how well engineered an important part was but the problem was the part was designed to last way longer than the expected life of the tank.

But couldn't that part be recycled into a new one? 8>)

There's also a piece on how that particular tank was used to film a segment of the movie "Fury".
IIRC, the movie crew painted it with a peelable latex coating for CGI coloring and action, since it was used little more than a full scale model, given the delicacy of the moving parts.

... it used the destructive power of a gun which could fire shells each weighing nearly a ton, well over a mile. Look! More journalism. Where did they find enough big, strapping German lads to load those 1-ton shells?

Just for reference the 15” AP shells used by the Bismark and Tirpitz weighed in at 1764 pounds. That was just the shell not including the powder charge!!!.

Museum curator David Willey told the Bournemouth Echo: ‘To have this tank working after 75 years is testament to the skill, knowledge and dedication of our staff.
It took them 75 years to fix it and hes bragging?

Sucks to be the 15 guys in the other 5 Shermans or “Ronsons”, another term the Brits used was “Tommy Cooker”!
There was an American ordnance officer who specialized in tank recovery & repair assigned to the 4th Armored. He wrote a book on his WWII experiences. The book title is “ Death Traps: The Survival of an American Armored Division in World War II by Belton Y. Cooper and Stephen E. Ambrose”.

Cooper hated Patton blamed him for the slow deployment of the Pershing tank which could meet Tigers and the more numerous Panthers on a more equal basis. Claimed Patton’s intransigence over this caused thousands of unnecessary Allied casualties.

"The engine had a nasty habit of catching fire " The Jewish slave labor that built the tanks deliberately did sloppy construction.

This particular Tiger is crewed by big strapping English lads. The engine is started by hand cranking an inertial flywheel & that’s far more than most can handle.
