The NYSE issue may not be due to an in-house problem (since they can clearly handle Berkshire Hathaway’s huge price). Perhaps it’s due to an interface issue between NYSE and NASDAQ. The problematic stocks are listed on NASDAQ but recently were made visible on NYSE so that NYSE could be a “reseller”.
The way I read the CNBC story, the $1,000 trading level had not been accounted for in S&P500 related automation. No other stock in the S&P 500 group has a four digit trading level. Automation fixed, issue resolved.
