Social media is supplanting dinosaur journalism with citizen journalists. Their angst is self induced.
Yes. ALL truthful people and truth seekers see "the media" as such--as a profoundly corrupt enemy of truth which corrodes the essential underpinning of democracy.
Truthful people and truth seekers are averse to propaganda, and a propaganda machine exactly what the "news media" has become.
In the USA, the "mainstream news media" is nothing more than a propaganda machine for the Democrat Party and Democrat politicians. Honest people and truth seekers are absolutely right to hold it and its agents in utter contempt--and they do.
If they’d quit lying and pushing their agenda, and just post news stories, nobody would *hate* them.

Note the absurd statement: “Political leaders who fuel loathing for reporters bear heavy responsibility because they undermine the concept of public debate based on facts instead of propaganda...” If media outlets devolve into propaganda arms of political movements can their reporting be considered factual?
The MSM has only itself to blame for the public distrust and disdain for them. For generations they have overwhelmingly cloistered themselves in their Northeastern/LA bubble, engaged in ideological groupthink, pushed a hard Left agenda and shown remarkable contempt for “flyover country” which they do not understand and are fearful of.
The rest of us call flyover country “America”.
Hatred of Journalism reflects hatred of journalists.
Hatred of journalists reflects their outright dishonesty, or at least their very select use of only those elements of truth that are convenient to their particular political point of view. Their self-serving and purposeful failure to report facts contrary to their political point of view is disgusting beyond belief, and yet another cause for people hating them.
This dishonesty is what threatens journalism. Fix that, and journalists will once again be respected, and then journalism will be respected. Until that time, these pampered, pompous, biased jackholes can go suck an egg.

It is so-called “journalism” that is proving dangerous to democracies. What animosity there is to the so-called “profession” of journalism it has brought on itself, having subscribed to political correctness and leftist political bias as foundational to the agenda driven work it is doing.
