Pilot said to ATC that he was on a training flight that sounds like he was probably a student pilot. Even if he had a students license and was approved to solo (without instructor) he could not legally fly with passengers.

As i think about it, I’m wondering if it is in one of the links Q provided. Isn’t he the one who told us about the crash? Maybe it was in that story.
