Windows 98 BSOD ... PING!

You can find all the Windows Ping list threads with FR search: just search on keyword "windowspinglist".

Give me 98 over 10 any day. I loath 10.

It’s pretty amazing to think that after decades of incompetence, Microsoft still rules the office desktop computer.

Picture this:

Bill Gates dies and goes to the pearly gates (no pun here). He stands before St Peter and asks, “Well, Heaven or not?” The apostle reaches done and pulls a large hour glass, flips it over and sets it on the lectern...turns around and walks away.

Does this mean they are going to be messing with 10 in an update?? Can we block it? I don’t even understand the mumbo jumbo and I’m sure as heck not going to understand it if they go messing around with it with an update...I didn’t ask for Windows 10 - it was a fluke with a site I went to and before I knew it, it was loaded...The site said I needed to UPDATE my browser to gain access to the site which wasn’t true at all.

I’m ready to disable all updates...I know people who do and they swear they haven’t encountered any problems by doing so.

Now that Gates and Ballmer are gone, and have no played an active management role, I'm starting to view Microsoft as a legitimate tech company, and not just a scam selling overpriced Veg-o-matic software.

Smiling and laughing at the crash may have made them feel better, but not me.

ALL programs can crash, but Microsoft seemed to rush their op systems to the public before they were ready.

I don’t remember plug n play capability in Win 98. At the time I couldn’t figure out why it was so hard to do.

The crash was a staged event, a hoax, designed to give the corporation “safe harbor” against claims of unwarranted high expectations for the product, should it fail. BG pulled that trick more than once.

Saw it live myself and was most amused. I must admit that Bill Gates keep his composure. I would have loved to hear what he said after he was off camera.

I still have a windoze 98 box in my spare room. I should hook it up sometime and see if it still works. Maybe play some Sam & Max. :)

I was on the Win95 dev team as a hardware tester.

At one point we had a build that would allow us to run 5 or 6 virtual machines of Win95 within Win95 but pulled that capability out.

Don’t know why they did but it was cool to watch :)

I could be remembering wrong but Windows 98 technically did not have the blue screen of death. That happened with NT and later builds based on that version.
