‘Unarmed’ black man killed in Walmart parking lot by police officers firing 'dozens of bullets' into packed car

Police have shot and killed a 26-year-old black man in a packed car outside of a Walmart in what his family say was an overly aggressive police response that led to an unnecessary death.

Police in Barstow, California killed Diante Yarber, a father of three, earlier this month after attempting to stop the vehicle he was in. A report from Barstow police says that Mr Yarber was “wanted for questioning” in a stolen vehicle case, and that he struck two patrol cars before an officer opened fire.

Dozens of gunshots can be heard in a shaky video recorded by a witness of the shooting. Mr Yarber is said to have been unarmed at the time of the shooting, which also injured a young woman in the vehicle.

“The police took him away for no reason,” Brittany Chandler, the mother of one of Mr Yarber’s children, told the Guardian. “The police should be held accountable for this … They are sick people for them to be able to shoot someone down in broad daylight.”

Previous reports from the police and local media in March indicate that Mr Yarber had been sentenced to four years probation last year for child abuse or endangerment, and resisting or obstructing an officer, according to court records. He was also sentenced to more than a year in prison in August of 2011 for pointing a shotgun at a group of people, and then shooting overhead, other records show. Mr Yarber was taken into police custody in mid-March on felony charges for possessing a firearm, but managed to escape from custody at the time.

Must have a really good job to raise 3 kids?

When my father was young one of the neighborhood kids who was born with no arms stole a locomotive from the Train Depot in KCK bottoms. Drove it several miles.

That was back in the 60's!

Regardless of race, how many of these incidents directly result from a specific history of leftist coddling of the perpetrators followed by an aggressive media campaign to assign blame to police rather than to the violent perps who end up getting shot by police?

I support the police in these matters. Very seldom are the police in the wrong, although it has happened.

That includes motorized vehicles.

As well as:

A bare arm.

Two bare arms.

Non-bare arms, covered by sleeves.

Etc.

Inevitably, these “unarmed black man (UBM) shot by police” stories always show the UBM doing things I’d NEVER do in the same circumstances because I don’t want to get shot.

There is one specific situation that I’m aware of where the UBM was doing nothing wrong. And guess what? EVERYONE is saying the cop was wrong and charges were brought (the black man reaching in his car to get his wallet because the cop asked him to).

And what about the WHITE GUY shot dead in a hotel hallway for all to see? That cop should be on trial for first degree murder.

The public schools should make Chris Rock’s video “How to Not Get Your A__ Kicked by the Police” required viewing.

It would be far more profitable for the yutes than Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth”, that’s for sure.

“wanted for questioning” in a stolen vehicle case,

This is enough to make me go hm-m-m-m-m. Back in my travelling days I was on the wrong side of this one too many times. The police used that as a post facto excuse for having stopped me. Riding a motorcycle across the country in the 60s and 70s insured that one would be pulled and patted down and maybe taken to the station a few times. No charges were ever lodged against me but it was a reality of life that my ride would not be eventful in regards to small town and big city police. Otherwise I strongly suspect the police probably correct. In the old days running from the police, at least in Florida might well get you shot and there was no judge who would gainsay it. It was the Fleeing Felon rule.

Sounds like a fine fellow. And he wasn't unarmed, he was wielding a motor vehicle.

Huh.

Took 'em a while to reveal that little gem. They're absolutely obsessed with his skin color, though.

Funny how it works that way.

Why don’t blacks cooperate with police?

Cause people they look up to tell them not to. Colin Kaepernick tells them they're always victims, and are always right, the facts be damned. Barack Obama tells them to "go out and get in their faces". Professor Gates tells them that police "act stupidly", Etc.

Maybe he was a bad driver and should have only been given a citation......

Don’t have 3 kids if you cannot support them:

Their version is: As long as either the Baby Momma can get him to take her to fill out the welfare paperwork, the Baby Daddy is supporting them.........
