On Saturday, actor James Woods reached out to alumni of Columibia University, asking for photo evidence that former President Barack Obama actually attended the school. As of this writing, the tweet received over 35,000 likes and was shared over 14,000 times.
Hey, if any of you went to Columbia University and recall Barack Obama as a student there, would you please respond with a tweet and a pic of him at Columbia? Thanks, he tweeted.

Root attended the Thornton-Donovan School in New Rochelle, N.Y.,[5] and was a member of the class of ‘83 at Columbia University, studying pre-law and political science.
IF Columbia College and Columbia University are two distinctly separate institutions, there’s your answer.

Thank you, Fred, for this excellent information. “College,” of course, denotes the undergraduate school. I suppose “Oxy” was a Columbia transfer “feeder,” though competitive private colleges rarely have undergrad transfer feeders. I have met Root, and I like him. I always did think he would be an excellent President. He is a self-made man, and as I remember he raised his kids so well one of them got a full ride at Harvard.
IF Obama had been a Republican the PRESS would have looked into this strangeness and covered it daily. The problem is the press is filled with liars and sycophants - so corrupt they won't do their job. Obama was a democrat - the press gave him a pass.
Interesting. Thanks for the education. Perhaps he was celebrating his African birth.
b.t.w., what’s the significance of wearing that kind of ring, on that specific finger?
To Zero?None-whatso-ever imo. It's simply a dress-ring, an accessory. That he wears it on the finger usually reserved for a wedding band wouldn't mean much to the radical whose ambition was to 'radically change America...' That's IF he was married at all. Anyone can dress up, invite 'relatives' and call it a wedding, right? Has anyone ever seen an actual wedding certificate?
African American students were not so very rare. Did not see any pictures of him, but again, the thing is, you would have known him if you were a) part of the same matriculating class b) ate in the same dining halls c) if he lived in on-campus housing. None of these things applied. Another thing: Obama arrived as a transfer student, so he did not go through the Freshman orientation, wouldn’t have made all the social connections that go along with entering school together with the rest of his classmates.
I’m not trying to argue either way. Just explaining why I would not necessarily have known him and why he might not have been so well known at the time.
One curious footnote: in the years he was supposed to be there, it was the height of the Anti Apartheid movement which was very big on the Columbia campus. Most of the rallies were held right outside a building I worked in frequently as a student manager of a buildings and grounds office. If he was an activist for that cause, I would have remembered him there because the protesters hung around there for days. I do think I remember George Stephanopolous hanging around with that crowd.
They are not physically or administratively distinctive, same campus and same school with different divisions, one of which is Columbia College. Still, the campus is fairly large and the likelihood of knowing someone is dependent on whether you are in the same classes or dining hall or dorm.
Hey, that pic is as realistic as the shopped ones on the Obama site!
somebody claims to remember:

‘I was Barack Obama 83s roommate at Columbia College in fall 1981. I met him in 1979, when we were freshmen at Occidental College (Oxy) in Los Angeles and our dorm rooms were directly opposite each other...’

imo zero did attend Columbia College. If that Central Park image has been tampered with, it may be for one reason that has not been considered.
His relationship with the Dunhams may have broken down when he left Hawaii after high school graduation. Putting them together on the bench in the park, using photographs of the Dunhams and zero that were taken separately on different occasions perpetuates the loving family myth.
