Airport security screening is one thing from which I have been safe. Your conjecture has merit and bears pondering and prayer but I’ve not seen or heard anything to verify. From what I recall of the article it required an invasive procedure maybe a laser surgery type thing? My recollection of the article was that they were giving people spiritual lobotomies. But my mind works kinda twisted and quirky and I’m by no means a medical or physiology person.
My personal POV about brain/religion.
Since the actual self is the soul, which is not a physical organ, the realization of God within a person is much deeper than any brain functioning. So the section of the brain they think is the seat of “religious belief” has nothing in fact to do with a person’s individual experiences or realization of God. God doesn’t manifest in a person, or speak to them, in the brain, but in the soul proper. Theoretical understanding, memorization, scriptural knowledge might be able to be erased or manipulated by messing with a person’s brain substance, but that is all.
