In a government boondoggle of this magnitude, I’m sure hundreds of millions of dollars are being skimmed.

How about we call this “The rail-free Train to Nowhere”
So much was made of the alleged “Bridge to Nowhere” (Alaska) some years ago. This current boondoggle is sooo much bigger, so much worse.

This is California’s great chance to out-do their fellow Democrats of Massachusetts and their champion cost-over-run, “The Big Dig”! That one was a mere triple cost over as (in constant dollars) it went from $2.8B in 1982 to 8.8B in 2007. Add in bond and administrative cost and the cost approaches $20B.
FYI: The initial US Govt. allocation of Highway Funds was vetoed by Ronald Reagan but Speaker Tip O’Neill (D-MA) and his Democrats over-turned it in short order. A further note of interest is that the I-93 now travels underground through the 1.5-mile (2.4 km) Thomas P. O’Neill Jr. Tunnel.

Instead of casting aspersions on Gov. Moonbeam and his happy crowd, we should sit here and truly marvel at their brilliant expansion of the art and science of maassive theft and fraud. In the nineteenth century they were terribly backward, especially in the construction of the transcontinental railroad, where the fraudsters merely managed to skim the operation, but actually did build the railroad in a mere six years. In the twentieth they got better with the Big Dig where they vastly expanded the costs, but still screwed up by actually completing the job, shoddy and late as it was. Now CA has achieved the Everest Summit equivalent of fraud by squandering billions over ten years without building a mile of rail.

How is it that other countries can build high speed rail? Japan France Germany and other nations have had them for decades. Surely it doesn’t cost them this much or does it?
