The thing that people trying stunts like this DO NOT UNDERSTAND, usually because they don’t know it, is that the police now have HUGE CAPABILITIES to detect lying - such as cell phone tracking, license plate cameras, facial recognition cameras, and other tools.
The people who then recant and admit to their lie, almost certainly, were busted by this type of evidence and told to fess up or face some serious punishment.

There was ALWAYS something else going on that was beyond minor.
