The Russians have been fighting the Muslim population for a Loooong time haven’t they? (Think eastern Russia )
The downfall of the leader with a cooperative Russian leaning new leader might suit their needs. Particularly if the country is weakened and can more easily be put into a bigger beholden to Russia position Just thinking through my thumbs

Putin’s Russia is schizophrenic when it comes to Muslims.
He doesn’t tolerate their presence in at home but partners with them abroad.
I wouldn't at all be surprised. I don't think they want the Deep State to win either. TOO powerful. We'll ease up in Syria and you help us in Iran? Just throw'n it out there.

Remember, a mole is someone embedded with the other side, in a position to learn all their secrets. They have to be VERY CONVINCING, especially after the other side recognizes the existence of a mole and starts to search with all possible resources.
