At the start of WWII, the Nazis had killed a few thousand people, political opponents and the severely handicapped. The Soviets had killed at least five million, Ukrainians and Kazakhs deliberately starved, others executed or perished in the gulags.

And yet Marxism is socially acceptable...

There are a few reasons I suppose Marxism is acceptable to the Left while Nazism is not.

• Nazis were white, and supremacists, whereas liberals believe in non-white supremacy.
• The Nazis' atrocities were more publicly known after the war, while communists tend to keep theirs secret.
• Liberals generally believe that the massacres and genocides had nothing to do with communism, only the leadership. With the right leaders, it can still work. They don't say the same about Nazism.
• Liberals generally think that all communist governments to date aren't "true" communism, so it's never really been tried.
• Liberals generally agree with Stalin's quote "you can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs".

In any case, communist have murdered more than twice the number of people that Nazis did, which includes every death in WWII.
