A challenge of this populist age is separating authentic outsiders with usefully unorthodox political perspectives from rank kooks looking to exploit a moment of open-mindedness.
Roseanne Barr provides a good study.
The popular reboot of her blue-collar sitcom after a two-decade slumber has been widely heralded as a populist victory by much of the pro-Trump Right, given the decision to cast Roseanne

I should listen to some Nut at National Review?
I don’t think Roseanne is a “complete nut”. However, I don’t think she’s a conservative either. On social issues she’s as liberal as anybody else in Hollywood, she just happens to be an old school “blue collar” democrat of the JFK variety. It just to go to show how far left the democrat party has gone that many now consider her right wing.
No nuttier than shes always been.
Roseanne merely found a niche in the tv audience. Notice all the publicity. She’s only about the money. I wrote her off years ago.
National Review is staffed with open borders neocons.
People should think twice before referencing them in other than a mocking tone.
Two out of three 'aint bad.
Trump supporters by their nature are pragmatic. Roseanne is an ally that’s why she is applauded. We have very few allies. You want her to reap less praise then more people have to support Trump
Rosanne is meh to okay. I dont take her seriously at all. I’m not gonna consult her for any kind of deep meaning or wisdom. She’s all over the map, and fires everywhere.
Roseanne Barr has sure turned things around since she sang the National Anthem at that Padres game.

She is funny. Her show is hysterical and fun to watch, its actually entertainment
I dont care if she thinks the moon is made of green cheese as long as her comedy is relevant and realitively clean by todays standards
The author.
You know what they say about the insane: They think they are perfectly normal and everyone else is nuts.
The National Review, full of Commie NeverTrumper nuts, is one to judge anyone
Cue Jon Lovitz.
“Acting!”
Never Trump haters at this lying rag are beliebpved by whom .
No one .
Why post this crap from frauds !
When I see National Review I don’t waste my time reading.
William F Buckley is doing high speed 360s in his grave.
A massive number of Trump voters fit this very demographic. In fact, one could argue that Trump himself isn't a social conservative and many social conservatives came late to Trump's camp when other candidates were dispatched.
The "Roseanne Class" represents a significant group of people who, if they had an opinion one way or the other on social issues, largely sat out the culture wars, preoccupied with the more pressing concerns of keeping their heads above water after being hung out to dry by the establishment candidates of both parties.
